Because being grumpy makes some of us happy, and some people have no problem stepping all over us for it so we just return the favor. Problem is, we're better at it then they are and it always makes them take offense and get their feelings hurt when you're honest with them...
Disagree with the little lives of happy people and watch how fast their happiness turns to vicious, delibrate retaliation... That... is not happy in my book.
It is a classic example of people always wanting to pimp out everyone else to justify their ideals and beliefs by making everyone confrom to their way of doing things... I find most happy people to be manipulative and controlling actually. Live and let live man! Some people have a damn good reason to be grumpy... Leave them alone!
The difference is... Those who are grumpy, don't usually make assumptions that everyone should be grumpy, we usually just want to be left alone... Much to the dismay of all the happy little lemming drones who can't leave well enough alone.
Most happy people project their sunshine on to everyone and everything and believe they are infectious and plesant when all they really are is intrusive, assumptive and annoying.
I find that most self professed "happy" people are the exact opposite. If you are something, in a genuine sense... You don't need to go around making comments about it. People live as proven examples of what they are inside, not by what they have to say about themselves, but by what others have to say about them in observation.
Im glad some people think they are happy... Most are just dellusional and obviously from the answers above... Dellusional is catchy and that scares the crap out of us grumpy people who know better...
"True happiness is knowing that you do not necessarily require it to be happy."
Sartre.
Nothing worse than a happy Born again Christian who wants to constantly share the "good news." with anyone who will listen... especially if they DONT want to hear it... UGH!

Perhaps because they haven't yet realised that life is what you make it! You may notice that grumpy people are also the ones who tend to say > If only I had this! or if only I'd done that! They are so busy looking at what they don't have they miss the important things that do bring happiness into our lives! They think happy people have something they don't (which we do!) and are jealous of it. If they stopped and asked what makes us happy instead of begrudging us our happiness they might learn something.
IT comes from within!!!

Because these people think there is a limited supply of happiness on the planet and you are taking more than your fair share!
Explain to them, there is more than enough happiness to go around and you'll be pleased to share some with them, but if they continue to refuse to be happy, there's really nothing more you can do for them, as they are happy being grumpy..if that makes any sense.

We don't, we just like grumpy. Now leave us alone!
Have you lot any idea as to the crap life may have thrown at others? Grumpy does NOT equal killjoy/spoiler/jealous.

jelousy i guess but i always say thay if you are not truely happy in life then you should change it!life is too short to be miserable in life and if you are then you have to re asses the situation and change it and get happy, and if all else fails and someone is trying to put you down for being happy tell them to bollox!!
