Smile and say if that's what you think you are intitled to your opinion. Then walk away. It soon makes the person who insulted you wonder if they got you wrong in the first place.

Depends on the insult and the person who said it.
Sometimes they are not insults at all. Sometimes they are just true. I just figure that I'm just being too obvious when I get caught... and pull back and re think my tactics... Being a bi*tch is an art you know...
It actually pisses me off more, to have been figured out that easily by an idiot, rather than to be pissed off for getting a slur hurled at me that's probably true anyway...
No one can insult you with anything you don't first see as a truth you are in denial of, hiding in some little corner of the back of your own mind in avoidance, waiting to jump out and pinch you via the observations of some other idiot who probably doesn't deserve the right to make such distinctions of anyone else anyway...!
It's all good... don't sweat it!

confused!
if i am makeing the insult and someone confronts me I own up to what i said and will explain why i said it! i will not say sorry unless i mean it!
eg: i said to a friend of mine that another friend is a drunk she confronted me she said you called me a drunk so i replied yea i mean you go to the bars at least 3-5 times a week you spend most of your cash on beer and you get mad because i don't want to hang out at a bar.. your a drunk.. but i still love you!
if someone was making the insult to me face to face
then i would handle it as the better person!
so in so says to me you must throw up cuzy our so skinny why don't you eat something twig..
I would handle this multiable ways
1. if a co worker said this - i would say this really think i'm skinny well give me some of your package and i won't be such a twig! or buy me lunch! smile and walk away
2. if it is a friend i will sit down and ask them what makes me look so skinny! You see how much i eat are you just playing with me!
3. someone who i hardly know i would just look at them and say really that is interesting and walk away or say nothing and ignore it they are not myfriend so who cares what they think!
hope that helps

It depends on the circumstances, if this is a situation that I need to remain professional in, I'd say something like I'm sorry you feel that way or There's no reason to be nasty, I'm just doing my job
If this is a social situation, and my job isn't on the line we'd have it out and it wouldn't be pretty

I simply take a deep breath and say "thank you." and walk away.
They can't continue to argue with me as I have not fueled their fire. Other good things to say are
"Feel better?"
"Isn't that special?"
There is also my favorite reaction, LAUGHTER! Seeing you laugh and be happy is that last thing they wanted. Their intention is for you to be upset, angry or hurt...don't give them what they want...

If their insult is clever, I laugh.
If it is lame, then I reply with a witty and sometimes eviscerating comeback.
