Because their selfish. The Republican leaders keep promising lower taxes so they can votes. This kind of behavior has resulted in a 8.5 trillion dollar debt. Expenditures are consistently greater than revenue. Republicans give b.s. about how trickle down economics create more jobs, and actually increase revenue. If the actual data isn't enough to convince them, then common sense should. Republicans are fiscally irresponsible. This will be the downfall of the United States.

Taxation is by definition a redistribution of wealth from individuals to a government, then for distribution of that wealth from government back to individuals. Some win, some lose. Usually the transfer of wealth is from wealthy to government to poorer.
The fact is the Republicans represent the wealthy and the corporate interests, the ones who have a social responsibility to see to the good of the whole, but they resent losing any of their wealth--which is in part why the middle class is responsible for paying the bulk of the taxes (did you know that?). Its that simple--Republicans stand for sticking it to the middle class and making the poor shift for themselves.
I'm not saying the Dems represent the middle classes and poor either, they have bought into the same system that the Republicans belong to--only they draw their political support from the poor--so they spread a minimum of wealth into things that help the poor, stick it to the middle class and leave the wealthy alone for the most part.
Both parties elected members use their offices to feather their own nests. So one party is greedy the other cynical.
We need to break the hold of both parties on the electoral machinery to fix these problems. The primary system in every state should be of the open primary type, this would allow new parties to form. We need to do what they did in TV, break the hold of the big networks on stations and programming. Allowing more independent productions, the formation of new networks and so forth.
We need to take back from the Republicans and Dems our political machinery. Which in turn, will create new choices, creative alternatives.

I don't hate taxes. I think they are good for the economy and it helps keep everything up. But I am against high taxes. I don't think it's fair to have to pay so much in taxes to support others when it makes it difficult to take care of ourselves. I also feel that taxes would go down if the government would take all the people off of wellfare who are healthy enough to work. This way more taxes will be going into the system and it will ultimately decrease the amount taken out of our paychecks.

Oh, we know that everyone hates taxes. The problem that I have at least is that the current tax code is unnecessarily complex and full of loopholes that companies can use as tax dodges. The optimum tax code would either be a flat tax or a consumption tax. That way dishonest companies couldn't dodge taxes, we could vastly shrink the IRS getting rid of a lot of government waste, the government would actually get more tax revenue because everyone would actually be paying their taxes, and business would prosper because the upper income brackets wouldn't get soaked by taxes and would be able to reinvest that money in the company creating new jobs and economic growth.

I think it's the Libertarians that really go overboard on that one.
The CURRENT Republicans are not really in line with the majority of the party on taxes - because this administration keeps offering tax cuts while increasing spending.
And the "personal responsibility" charges being lobbed at victims of disaster are shameful divisive rhetoric that Republicans should be above. You don't hear this from elected representatives, just media shills.
Both parties have membership that take party policies and go overboard with them. You see more of that here because people don't have to own up to what they say here out in real life.
by the way - Democrat

They cry about taxes but are not afraid to reap in their profits. The question is how did they get those profits? By living in a country that protects them with an army, provides roads and airports so they can transport their good, inspects their food so they are not poisoned, and passes laws that protect their business interests. All these things need to be paid for and they should realize that they are lucky to live in this country and should pay their fair share. In the 50s there was a 90% tax rate for the rich and corporations paid the majority of taxes. Now the burden is on the backs of the middle class.

Because they see through knee jerk feel good issues and historically Tax increases have not helped but hindered the economy and more social programs have proved to create more of a class dependency on the programs that are created to help them out.
Tax breaks have proven to create jobs and spur economy and reduce unemployment.
The necessary evil of the left is to keep a dependent sector for political base and polls, The left that is being elected (Except for the far left bastions,NY, CA have been those that tend to move towards the middle and yep the right)

What are you talking about? I don`t mind taxes, they are an investment in my country. What a patriotic thing to do help my fellow American back up after they fall down regardless if it was self inflicted or not I forgive and I progress. Now how well the taxes are managed is another thing, I don`t think we should be paying for $300 toilet seats.

Its called pandering to the voters. You see, they know that if they talk real issues they lose big time so they keep harping on tax cuts (usually going to the wealthy although they say no).
They accuse the Democrats of tax and spend when they borrow and spend. So someone else will pay the bill later.

Tax cuts for the rich DOES NOT mean they have no taxes. If they get a million dollars, they will get to keep only 600,000 or so. How painful is that?
