well im about a week late on my period, my breast are bigger and im having abdominal cramping and shooting pains, i went to the doctor and he gave me a urine preg test and it came out negative, but he also gave me blood work for different things, should i stop worrying due to the fact ive only had sex once in my life ,with protection that didnt break or leak and it was during my last period..so can pregnancy be ruled out now that i got that negative urine test?

Your last sexual encounter was a month ago, is that correct? That means that the test is accurate as the hormone would be detectable by the test. So you are not pregnant. Your doctor may have had the blood checked for hormones also since he'd already had the blood draw.

This is a tricky one. Being a week late for a period is not necessarily an indication of Pregnancy. I remember in "my" day, you had to be several weeks(or a month) late, before even going to the Dr. to get a preg. test(that was before they had "in-home" tests). Missing a week is not abnormal. How old are you? Have you been under stress? Changed lifestyle in some way? Been sick? All this and more can cause your period to be late. The Urine tests at the Dr's. office are, in my opinion, much more reliable than the in-home tests....I would say if it showed up negative and the Dr. didn't ask you to come back for another one in a week, you are clear of being pregnant. If you are still concerned, do an in-home test, just to ease your mind. In the mean time, Take a long hot shower or a warm soothing bubble bath. Do some exercising, take a long walk...relax....

That chick is not right! The doctor and the nurses told me that the over-the-counter pregnancy tests that they have at retail stores now are much more sensitive than the urine sticks that the doctor buys--chiefly b/c the hospitals buy a huge bulk amount of a generic pregnancy test. If you buy a pricey named-brand test at the store, it's sensitivity is much higher than the one the doctor used.

I can prove this b/c during my second pregnancy (I've been pregnant 4 times) I had a positive home test and I went to the doctor and it took the doctor 3 more pregnancy tests spaced out over a week and a half to finally get a positive on his test. But he told me when I came in, that if I had a positive test at home, then I was pregnant....sure enough I have a 4 year old little girl now.

It's not likely that you are pregnant b/c you had intercourse before your last period. That doesn't make it impossible though. Get a test at the store, like First Response, and if it's negative then you can have faith that you aren't pregnant.

Blood work will confirm the negative. Until then, just assume you're not pregnant. Their urine tests are no more sensitive or different from the ones in the stores. Theyre only monitored by medical professionals, the % error is less because of that.
