I'm from southern MO. and have had to do more yard work than usual because of the ice strom we had. We had to cut a tree down from our yard and now we're chopping it up into smaller pieces. The muscles for my thumb on my right hand hurt constantly. I've tried using Icy Hot and taking Tylnol but the pain is still there.
Could it be cutting wood that did it and what's some other ways I could try to make the pain go away?

You may have soft tissue damage from the cold or you bent thumb back or strain.

It not cutting the wood but how you hold the axe.

Imbolize thumb and keep it warm. If pain persists after three days see a doctor - sooner if it changes colour or gets worse.

It could be the joints actually - Aleve would be a better choice than Tylenol in that case. At any rate, it probably did come from the extra strain, which means it should be gone soon.
