I have a deep freeze that I purchased in 97 and the power cord needs replaced. The power cord has been cut in half. So, I have purchased a new power cord and got ready to change it out, but the old power cord goes way up inside the freezer with no way to change it out. My question is, am I able to splice the new cord with the old one as long as I use wire nuts and tape up?

You can do it. But i recommend putting the splice in a junction box with a cover...If your splice ever fails and arcs out, the sparks (hopefully) will be contained in the box. Use metal 4"x4" and steel cover. 2 cable connectors. Make sure wirenuts are tight!! and tape them to the wire insulation so they don't vibrate off..

Try moving it away from the wall and looking to see if the back metal plate comes off to give you access to the place where the cord is attached. If the cord got in there in the first place there is obviously a way to get it out. If that is too much of a hassle then "frozen's" suggestion about just putting a plug onto the stub that you have is the safest one.

On the other hand Buy a plug and a heavy duty extension cord. Put the plug on the wire you have left and use the extension cord to reach the AC receptacle. Then you won't have to worry about tape and wire nuts coming loose. Don't forget the gounding wire.
