Feminism has not helped society as a whole. It has helped women and at the same time changed society for the worse. While the original aim was equality in voting and other rights, it has gone far afield from 'equality' to the point that society has been harmed. Equality was never an aim of modern feminism but rather superiority, which has been achieved and is being actively sought to even further the rights above men and children.
Feminism has had a direct involvement into the decline of modern society to the point that women are becoming identical to the men that feminism hates. They (women) are becoming more violent as an indirect result of feminism.
Millions of unborn babies are killed each year because they are "inconvenient"; many are just abandoned by mothers because feminism demanded women be allowed to do so while withhold that same right from fathers; 24 million children don't have fathers in their lives as a direct result of government's bowing to feminist demand to make divorce attractive to women.
In all, women have gained and lost due to feminism. They have gained everything yet lost their very soul; that which makes a woman special has been eliminated by feminism.
Colleeen O: Alimony was reduced at the same time and in the same amounts that child support rates were increased. The difference is that child support is non-taxed, alimony is. Who do you think spearheaded this change? The answer is feminists.
Adultery is no longer grounds for divorce because feminists want to divorce at will and without valid reason, ergo, "no-fault" divorces, while keeping their hands firmly planted in the pockets of their ex.
If you will check, you will find that only 7% of fathers are able to obtain custody of their children, usually at the insistance of the mother or occasionally, but rarely, when the father is financially able to and can prove the mother incapable. The mothers ordered to pay child support, while aside from being rare, are far less likely to be paid and are far less likely to be punished for failing to do so.
Twit4U.. Your rant is nonesense. All you accomplished is showing yourself to be sexist and ageist: a bigot.
Crazy Marie... apt name. What you describe is what feminism demands of women. It is not demanded by men, never has been. Men do the lion's share of producing income as well as a fair share of work in the home. If anything, feminism has demanded men financially support women even more than ever.
Your post sounds very sexist, not to mention *wrong*.
If this is your circumstance, the problem is yours for making the wrong choice for a husband; if not, you're just blowing hot air.
Poet: you are accurate in your appraisal of the fact that feminism has achieved all it's goals and more. You are also correct in that the time has come to make 'equality' the goal instead of feminism, which no matter how it is viewed is advancement for women only. This has been achieved at the expense of society in general and specifically at the cost of men and children.
I'm Gonna Tell You; you are correct that feminism is the wrong term. Feminism is a term that means more rights for women; modern feminism adds "without responsibility" to that term.
You are incorrect in your statement that "women who were beaten, raped, and murdered were considered to have invoked these horrors upon themselves!" It has always been illegal and severely punished for doing these things to women. All feminism did was make a woman's word accepted as truth regardless and increase punishment beyond reason.
"Women that are abandoned by their husband's used to have no right under the law to seek support." is a lie. Women have always had the right to seek support (alimony) and child support. What has changed is that women are now using child support in place of alimony as a means of tax-free income for up to two decades after the marriage has failed (most often because she wanted it to end 85% of the time to be exact.
Women are far less likely to pay child support when ordered to so than men.
Feminism has demanded women be as much like men then you have the audicity to complain when it happens. That, to me is the essence of feminism. Rights without responsibility and make demands then complain when they are achieved.
And you are wrong about women earning 20% less than men. Women earn the same as men when they do the same work and are equally qualified. That is the problem. If you remove the housewives and part-time workers, the women who take months/years off to raise a family then return to the workforce from the formula, the wage gap is actually in favor of women slightly. There IS no wage gap as proported by organized feminism.

Only if you appreciate the fact that you were given the right to vote. You are no longer owned by first your father then your husband. You were officially considered a "person", in 1929, by the House of Lords in England. You can choose who you marry and how many children you might want. You have birth control and if your husband abuses you then you can leave the marriage. You can get into law school or be a doctor. Both of these as well as most others were denied women because they could not sign a contract without their husbands permission.
You are allowed to use a computer right now. Don't take any of these rights for granted because if not for the women who started first wave feminism and the second wave you would have very few rights at all.

I think that feminism is an inappropriate word to describe women who seek the same civil rights as men
Women who were beaten, raped, and murdered were considered to have invoked these horrors upon themselves! Crimes like these against men were always punishable. I wouldn't say that feminism has even begun to conquer this type of thinking.
Women that are abandoned by their husband's used to have no right under the law to seek support. We have the right to seek it, doesn't mean we actually get the support.
Feminism has seemed to only back fire. Men no longer hold doors for women (I've had a fair amount of men drop a department store door on me and my son who was in a stroller) Men don't feel they don't have to pay for dinner anymore, even though they STILL earn 20% more than women in the same field, with the same experience. The list goes on....
So, no, I don't think 'feminism' has done anything for society, let alone the women in which it was supposed to have made gains for.

Nope because men have lost their place when it comes to manhood. In the 1960's it was real simple what a man knew what he had to do. At 18 he graduated high school, got a full time job, got married and by the time he was 23 he owned a home with his family. With women getting into careers "Boys" after they turn 18 are left confused what to do. The feminism movement has taken the pride away of being a man. The feminism movement also have made society filled with weak men. Look at shows like Home Improvement or King and Queens, where the men are dumb@sses and the women are the level headed ones. Home Improvement should be banned at how Tim allow his wife to go on rant after rant and all he does is run outside to Wilson instead of putting his foot down. Many men have picked up this trend.

How the feminist movement has helped society:
I couldn't participate in sports in high school, now girls can (granted, the funding isn't equal).
In my high school, girls weren't expected to go to college, and most families didn't help their girls go to college if they wanted to go-the expectations have changed alot since then, but now many families can't afford to send kids to college.
I was told in college, that as a woman, I had about 4 jobs to train for in college; now, women have alot more professional choices, even if they aren't as welcome or paid as well as men in some of the professions.
I was told at a couple of my jobs that I shouldn't be working at all since I was a woman, or shouldn't be promoted since I was a woman-that was in the 1980's, so don't know if that's changed as much as we'd like it to...
I've been and have seen other women being sexually harassed at their jobs, in the 1980's-1990's, so even though the work environment has improved, it's still not perfect.
I know a number of women who have been raped by their family members, raped at college, and beaten by their husbands...I wish these were all part of the past, but unfortunately, violence still occurs a great deal in the USA.
Men and boys are still mocked if they are perceived to be feminine, and being called gay is still the worst thing you can do to a man.
If a woman is different, she can still be called a lesbian to let her know she had better get feminine or else.
The feminist movement has helped society, but there still is a lot of work to be done, if you care about women, men, and children.

That depends upon how one looks at things. The feminist movement (ERA) is the reason alimony has been all but abolished from divorce settlements, the reason adultery is no longer grounds for divorce alone in most states. It is the reason females in the U.S. military now reside in Leavenworth for their crimes. And it is why courts now enforce child support when the woman is not the custodial parent.
Conversley it is also why women have gained respect in the workplace and have been allowed to prove their worth. Take a look at Hollywood, women are now among the most respected of producers and directors and head their own studios now. Women are now CEOs of their own companies rather than having to hire a male to front the business to give it credibility.

I think so. At least for women. Men couldn't vote, didn't have rights, were men's property.
True, there are things that are not great about feminism, but I don't think it should make us forget about the rights it gave us. feminism nowadays can be seen in its extreme form. I don't like that either! Sometimes, you hear about women hating men, bla bla, and that's really sad. And some feminists think that men and women are the same. I really don't think it's true. I thought about it for a while, about the role of education. But I think men and women can be quite different (of course, there are always been women who are more "masculine" in their taste, and vice-versa), amd not just physically.
Someone mentionned the fact that girls dress up like sl*ts, now, and all because of feminim. It is true that some women misunderstand what feminisn is. I mean, how can you believe that showing your boobs and crotch is an act of rebellion and empowerment?! It's yetr another thing that men love! But I think it's because of our society, trying to sell even more (andwhat sells more than sex?!), and some girls just don't have enough brain - or are still too young - to realise that they are just following trends set up by businesses.
Feminism was supposed to be about equality. It hasn't quite reached its goal, unfortunately, but I think we can't deny that it has improved women's living conditions. We might have to work AND take care of the kids now, but we are free! And in a perfect feminist world, both parents would take care of the kids (I think a lot of fathers take care of their kids, now, and I think it's great for the mother, the father, and the kids as well).
People often talk about the fact that men don't know where they stand anymore... Well, I don't know where they live, but men I know seem to be perfectly fine! And if they mean "men who hit their wife, spit, fart, have bad taste, and/or spend their time with their friends but not with their family", then I'm sorry, but I'm very happy things have changed!
I'm French, and we still have some sort of macho culture, but we seem to be doing ok, as far as relationships are concerned. I don't know, there seems to be less antagonism between men and women (maybe because at school, you often see both girls and boys in the same groups of friends).Of course, we still earn less money even when we have the same job and the same qualifications, and women are definitely misrepresented in politics and in high-paid jobs, and the nunber of women beatten up by their bf or husband is still too high, etc. But the relationship between men and women doesn't seem to be as violent as in the US. Maybe I'm wrong, though. Maybe I've just been lucky!

while feminism replaced into greater mandatory, it replaced into distinctive. i've got not thought approximately the way it fairly is benefited adult men, yet i'm valuable there are some approaches it fairly is benefited considerate adult men, mutually because it fairly is "injury" sexist adult men. i could say which you will still could desire to do an fairly responsible, inclusive assessment to get an thought. the undertaking is, aside from these days, almost no analyze of gender have been responsible or inclusive. they did no longer contain a honest assessment of ways unfair maximum adult men now have it residing with their section-time feminist lady. The approaches that it rather is bigoted do no longer lend themselves to medical surveys like a number of the historic mistreatment of girls people, so persons like Baba Yaga brush aside their life as negligible.

As with most movements, the initial ideas and actions were necessary and functional ones. But after the goal has been (at least somewhat) achieved, it's time to change the ideas, name, approaches, etc. to apply to the current issues. As time goes by and society moves on, the movements become stagnent and redundant, therefore losing effectiveness. So, initially, I think they 'help society', but any movement that wants to change society has to be willing to change along with society.

Yes, in a way, believe it or not, the countries where we think that women are more oppressed, are actually the ones where women has more freedom..... anyways the places where there are femenist movements have help to give women the rights to vote and so on...which is good; and I do not know about you, but the the way that I think that has not help society is that more women have started to act more like men, and to my opinion, women should behave liko women and men like men, leave the hard work to them :) thats why God made their figure the way He did, and He created us more fragil, Who are we to argue with what God has decided! :)

Yes and no. It's strengthened a woman's right for property, voting and given her more independence but it's also perpetuated puritanical ideas when it comes to sex. Also having a sexist name like 'feminism' pits gender against gender.
