"Don't pitty me!", "Don't indulge in self-pitty", "Don't pitty yourself"... Why is it wrong to pitty oneself and others?

It's not wrong to pity someone, but pity is associated with "looking down" on someone. That would be a little offensive.
To pity oneself is abhorrent - it means they have little self-respect and are only trying extol sympathy from others. Very selfish. That is why it wouldn't be proper to pity oneself.

Because self-pity is generally regarded as a negative emotion, in that it does not apparently help deal with the situation. However, in a social context, it may result in either sympathy being offered or advice being given. Self-pity may be considered normal, if perhaps not exactly healthy, so long as it is transitory and leads to either acceptance or a determination to change the situation. That is why many people don't need pity from others because of this reason. For every action there is a reaction. You can't be a victim. Basically you'd pull in what you've pulled out. No one puts a chain on you but yourself. So you take the responsibility for all your actions in life.

Pity is actually feeling sorry for ones self or others and does absolutely no good. Epathy on the other hand allows you to actually sense the other persons feelings. It is better to empathize with people and find solutions to problems, either your own or helping others find solutions to their problem. So what good does it do to waste time on pity. If there is a problem, fix it, do not dwell on it.

It's pointless. Pity just makes you feel bad. It contributes nothing to healing, or to encouragement, or anything.
