Broken tiba & fibia, 2 inches above my ankle.Have a rod and screws in my leg. They will stay I guess. Has anyone experienced this type of injury? What do I have ahead of me..Will it ever be the same? I am about to go crazy sitting in this chair and using a walker. You really don't know what you take forgranted until you don't have it. Had to have a pity party this A.M. But I'm ok now..I hate this..Everyone please take care when on the snow & ice. It happened so fast..and is NO fun....Thanks

Yes I've broken those two bones and had a plate and 10 screws.
It was in the summer, so in some ways it was easier to get about. I've also been on crutches in the winter for a knee reconstrustion.
The toughest part was losing my independence. I hated that. But I eventually learned some strategies.
In terms of recovery... keep active. Physical activity will help you heal and will speed up your recovery time. Do weights with your arms and other leg while you're sitting in your chair. Do leg extensions with your cast to stregnthen your thigh muscles. I know you hate your walker /crutches.... but try to walk as much as you can. Every little bit helps. When the cast comes do physio.
A friend of mine broke her leg at the same time as I did. I was about a month and a half ahead of her in recovery becase I kept so active!
Good luck.

For sure there will be a lot of things ahead of you.Breaking your two long bones on your legs wont be easy but I'll be certain that you will be able to handle it. You just have to be true to yourself that you will be on Recovery state for quiet sometime and that means sacrificing things that you love to do( skating, dancing, etc..) involving your legs.
Im just reading the book written by Joni Eareckson a while ago.Its all about her unforgettable story on how she struggle to cope up on her depression after her accident and be a quadriplegia for the rest of her life.
I might sound crazy but you are really lucky and be very thankful that you are still alive. Dont get upset on using your walker and w-chair for now for in the brighter side- those equipments are helping/assisting you to get better. And start planning on how short or long you would like to be sitting on that w-chair so you have something to hold on.That's a positive attitude that would be a great help on your Leg Rehab.

You joined the breakers club winter edition. During the last ice storm around here my son's friend went out to empty the garbage and down he went with a clean hip fracture all the way through and across. Doc did the pin routine and not much of anything for at least three months. The wife is looking for help to move from second story apartment to ground floor so he can be up and about. The authority gave her one day to move!
I hope you dont overdo trying to get better but there is a tolerance level to getting back to normal movement. Do not backslide and overdo the routines..Prayers
