Yes it is true. The recent crime rates particularly purse snatching is very high in Kuala Lumpur. Do not walk alone at the backstreet especially if you are a woman. Snatching handbag and purse from woman who is riding a motorbike is very frequently happen. There are many cases where the thief kick the front tyre of the bike when the woman is riding the bike, when she lost control and fall down the thief just snatch her purse and handbag and go. In many cases also the woman is killed due to head injury when she fell or run over by a car. The police seem to be out of control. I would advised women if possible do not go out alone.

yes, it does happen, a popular pastime with Malay drug addicts to make some fast bucks, and yes it is mostly from women that they snatch handbags because men seem to carry less often handbags... sorry for the sarcasm there... but it happens not only in KL (a metropolis like any other in the world) or Malaysia for that matter... so wherever you go be a sensible traveller, keep your cash/valuables close to your body, maybe carry a rucksack rather than your Gucci handbag when strolling through the markets. Don't advertise that you 'have cash' on you, don't flaunt your jewellery... you will find that Malaysia is a much safer place than many others in the world, even the large cities here are really safe for foreign travellers!

Yes it's quite true. Esp around city areas. Most of the time, these crimes are often commited by foreigners. Not to say we're leetting the locals off the hook. But hey, which country has no crimes? It actually depends on how severe the crime rates are in the country you're holidaying. Just be careful where ever you go and watch your purse. DOn't flash your money around - that's all. Don't allow the crime rates stop you from visiting the country. Malaysia is a nice place to go to. Good bargain and all....

I've just returned from 3 week travel in Malaysia. KL is comparatively safe place . Petty crime like snatching is everywhere in many big cities all over the world . people there is quite civilized perhaps partly from Muslim teachings . You do not have to worry as much as you do in your own home town .

It is NOT safe if you walk alone in all parts of malaysia especially for a lady.Snatch thieves are very rampant and in fact it is rising. Please make sure you do not put your valuable belongings in a bag.

please put your cash , passport and mobile phone in your pockets.preferably with pocket button.
Next advice is be aware of pick pockets at all tourist location.

don't worry..it is absolutely safe to travel in kuala lumpur. you just need to be careful with your belongings and do not "show" your money everywhere....it is the same in most places you go.
