Is the water clear blue? Are sharks a major problem there, and if so would they be in early April? Also are the beaches clean? Is shelling pretty good there?

It's been about 15 years since I've been, but it's pretty nice as I remember. I was with two associates on a business trip, and we decided to hit the beach. As we were visiting Eglin AFB, we decided to check out one of the several beaches that were attached to the installation.

It was early when we arrived, so we were the only ones there. After about an hour, we saw a couple in the distance. As they were quite a ways off it was hard to tell, but I was pretty certain that they were naked. It turns out that this was one of the more remote Eglin beaches that was not actively patrolled or maintained by the military; and since it was a federal reservation, state and local authorities had no jurisdiction. With no law enforcement paying any attention, it had evolved into the area's nude beach.

As far as sharks, I've never heard of them being a problem; but they generally aren't. When I worked at Sea World, a shark expert told me that most people who have often swam in the ocean have been within 15 feet of a shark at one time or another without knowing it.

Fort Walton is a beautiful beach. Sharks can be a problem at certain times of the year. Just talk with the lifeguards or watch the news when you get there to find out if there are any problems. Also pay attention to the the flags on the beach. The undertow can be bad there. The water is beautiful, and I'm sure you will have a fabulous time!
