I've noticed this all of a sudden, it seems like restaurants are closed on Mondays everywhere I look. Why is this so? Is it some kind of traditional thing to be closed on a Monday? Not counting fast food places like Applebees and Ruby Tuesdays, all real restaurants seem to be closed on Mondays.

for a day off .... after a busy weekend ... they most likely have found that Monday is their least busy day, and take advantage of that to rest ....

A lot of restaurant owners still want 2 days off, and many of them close on Sundays anyway. But Saturday is too lucrative a day for them to close, so they delay their extra day off until Monday, which usually isn't as busy as other days anyway.

It is very likely that Sundays are jam packed with foodies at all restaurants, hence the staff and waiters and waitresses need to cool their heels. Also fresh food stocks are bought on Monday, to again start serving food on Tuesdays.

They need a day off! It's usually a slow night out anyway! This is common as far as I am concerned.

I guess after the busiest days of the week restaurateurs want a day off on the quietest day for them.

To get a break and re-stock and clean up.

Lots of hairdressers do this too.
