Assuming 100g of the compound,
there would be 56.4g of Mn and 43.6g of S.

no of moles of Mn
= mass / Ar
= 56.4 / 54.9
= 1.027 mol

no of moles of S
= mass / Ar
= 43.6 / 32.1
= 1.36 mol

mole ratio of Mn : S = 3 : 4

Therefore empirical formula is Mn3S4.

Say the number for Mn is x and the number for S is y.

54.9x/(54.9x + 32y) = 0.564

Therefore 4x = 3y

The lowest possible numbers that satisfy that equation is x=3 and y=4

So we have Mn3S4.
