Right now you can drop out at 16, but I don't think you should be able to. You can barely make a living without a college degree, it is almost impossible to make a living without a HS diploma. I think in order to drop out you must first get a GED, and prove you are going to be working full time, or get into a training program. I don't think kids should be able to drop out and sleep in and play video games all day.

Now looking back Some of those the quite at 16 have come around. However I think they should require schooling till grade 12 or 17-18 years of age. If one drops out should have to do something however now days the military doesn't want these kind. Maybe Alternative schooling or work related to the neighborhood improvement.

In Iowa, I belive a student can drop out of high school at the age of 16, although it may be a lengthy process because a lot of the time people will convince the student to try an alternative school or a different school district before dropping out.

This is my personal opinion...
I think that before a student drops out they should think about their future. Yes they may be able to go back and get a degree but most don't think about what their doing. They will not be able to get a better paying job then what they will end up with, and what will they tell their kids (if they have any)
Even though they are allowed to drop out at the age of 16, I still think its an immature age to be deciding such important decisions.

I thought you had to have your parents consent to drop out at 16?

I don't think it is right, but sometimes people need to learn the hard way. So dropping out and then finding they can get a decent job will make them appreciate school more later.

Yes, sometimes people are needed to work on the farm.

Also if people are sentenced to school until they graduate, is this really any different from prison?

I don't think so, IMO. Lack of education is a permanent hindrance to earning potential.
