most internet reviews state that hotels at genting highlands have checkin waiting time of 3 to 4 hrs, hotel rooms are ill maintained, staff are rude and not courteous. is it better to plan a day visit and returm to kuala lumpur by nightfall, especially if a family with children is going there on a holiday?

yep, i truly agree with what you have mentioned regarding genting highlands..check in time is damn long if its on the peak season..best avoided on that particular period..i've to genting many times and i really enjoyed the place when its not so crowded during the non-peak season..and yeah, what do you expect..when the place is like a hay wire..the staff gets annoyed too..handling so many people..with little much time to do everyhing to pleases the customers..i dont blame them if they ever get rude to the customers...

and oh! if you ever planned to get your whole family which also includes the kids..its the best to spend a night or two to fully enjoy the place..if its all in one day trip..then you my friend will end up hay wired too as to catch up with all the games and events up there!!

happy holidays!! and good luck! hahaha...

Yes, what you read is rather true. One of the main reasons is that Genting Highlands is a very popular holiday resort for many tourists and Malaysians too. Therefore, check in time is rather long especially during peak season.

A day trip to the resort is a good idea if you have children but if you are going to the casino and the kids wanna play all day long at the theme parks (outdoor and indoor), then, there wouldn't be sufficient time to enjoy all the fun available. You could even catch a live show or concert while you are there. They have special performances from great artists every month. There's even a magic show every night.

I would suggest staying a night after all those activities and have a good night rest before going home.

U should make a reservation at Genting Hotel before arriving. If not or if u go to other hotels, u are screwed. And also pls make sure u book the rooms atleast 10 days before as they are always fully booked.

Genting Hotels rooms are excellently maintained, I'm there atleast 3 times a month gambling.

i beg to differ.. it depends on the time period u are going, better avoid the school holidays in malaysia as it is a famous holiday destination..
i visited it during the school holidays omnce before but i made hotel room reservations earlier before hence it isn't tough.. i find the staff quite helpful instead (i was staying at genting hotel).. they let me check-in around 12pm and their room service was good too..
genting is good for its cool weather and both outdoor and indoor theme parks.. if u want to play both, i suggest plzaying the outdoor during the day if the weather permits, and indoor during night.. hence it's better to stay over for a night before returning to KL.. i would say that it's worth it.. i always spend 3 days 2 nights there.. =)

Wow, I did not know that. This kind of things shouldn't happen. Maybe its best to return to KL but if you decide to stay, be sure to give em a piece of mind if service is not up to standards. Can't stand these kind o people. Enjoy your stay.

not really...you just need to book online and make sure you take your check in number early, such as 10 am...go for a drink and come back for your turn...they allow early check in.
