I downloaded some personal pictures from a digital camera. I deleted them and emptied the recycle bin. Are they hiding anywhere? I would hate for my kids to see them or someone in the repair shop if I ever have to take it in. I would be totally embarrassed! How can I make sure they are wiped from my computer forever???

I didn't actually save the pictures- I just downloaded and printed them out. Does that change things?

Ahh if you don't know much about computers and your kids do, look for copys of the pic's and delete those also. look under search in my computer just for media and then refine the search just for pic's.

There gone, but if a clever person was out to get your pics (and I'm sure there not) they could by using a software to retrieve deleted data. You probably never have this happen to you, b/c people that do that are only out to get information to get money from it. I just don't see your kids doing that or anyone in your family installing this software on your computer to pull up deleted date. But if you want to cover all your bases do the fallowing:
1 Open my computer
2 Inside you should see your Local disk drive. It probably the C: drive.
3 Right click and go to properties, then inside of that go to tools.
4 Inside tools go to the Defragment now and run it.
5. This could take a few hours so let it run over night.
Doing this would make it hard for anyone to retrieve deleted information even if they use software.
Good luck

With this software you can see what files can be recovered and how good the condition the files is.
You then can either recover the files or perform a secure deletion of the files so they can be recovered.
Drive Discovery 2.34

"Analyze the hard disk to see what files and data can be recovered, see inside deleted files and view deleted images. Remove all traces of selected files, or recover lost files. Option to auto-wipe files as they're deleted. Our software can also wipe disk free space, erase file slacks, get rid of orphan file system entries, wipe the swapfile and uniquely, can clean data traces "from under existing files, defragmenting them in the process.

well, you shouldn't be taking pictures you aren't proud of, dirty pictures.....
OK, your question is a yes and no answer. Yes they are gone from your computer.....under normal means of searching for them. However, with the proper tools, they could still be found on your hard drive. Granted, most people will not have, nor have access to tools to recover them. There are also tools you can use to "scrub" them off your hard drive, including the "ghosted" remnants.
However, for your purposes, they are gone, and won't be seen again.

They can be recovered with disk recovery software. You can get rid of them by overwriting them with "shredding software". Now that they are erased, the shredding software will need to do the process to all the "empty" areas of your drive.
p.s. Formatting the drive still permits disk recover software to find old files. Only overwriting them with "shredding software" or destroying the disk physically can get rid of all the traces.
