You did not mention where this is a laptop or a desktop.

If it is a desktop, try a different mouse. Something may be sticking in it that is making the mouse move

If it is a laptop, it may be the build-in mouse (touchpad, mouse stick, etc) that is causing it. Very common in laptops. Go into the control panel and the mouse icon and disable the build in mouse. Then try an external mouse. If that resolves the issue, the you need to have a profession replace the build in mouse.

If you try a different mouse and it still jumps, then the port that mouse plugs into may be bad. The cost to replace that (since it is part of the system board) will be as much as a new PC. So switch the type of mouse you use (replace your round connector (PS2) mouse with a USB mouse for example) so it uses a different port to connect.

If it is an optical mouse look at the surface you are using it on. Some mouse pads have a surface that throws off the optical sensor and the cursor will move when not moving the mouse. We found this out with the Dell mouse pads. As soon as we changed the mouse pads the problem disappeared. You will have to change the speed of the mouse in control panel.

Yes, buy a new mouse. Get an Optical mouse this time. Wireless does have the disadvantage that the mouse is somewhat heavy with the batteries inside for the RIDE. So I prefer a wired optical mouse. Staples has them, or visit http://www.newegg.com

Good luck and Happy Computing!
