I think the Internet has been a definate plus in this day and age. Information at your fingertips. Now the downside: All the crazies, lunies, perverts, stalkers, haters now have an arena and the potential to reach millions. Pro or con and how do we secure privacy and safety of it's users??? Is it possible?
P.S.- Cyberstalkers are the worst because they are cowards! I have been attracting people with brains and a point of view. Thank you- Only those reply please.

I worry more about the children as they cannot make judgement calls as clearly as adults. The net has become pervert central.

The Internet is like every other scientific advancement in history, there will always be someone who abuses it. Should we regulate it? Hard to say. How far can you go on something that is worldwide? The telephone is a good example. Do you want Big Brother listening to every phone call and deciding what you can and can't say? (George Bush thinks so!). If you truly want freedom, freedom of speech etc. you cannot tell others they can not share in that freedom if I disagree with what they say. The Internet is a worldwide means of communication. If we allow government to became too restrictive, it could collapse. The urge to control others is great, but in the 50's, TV shows were not allowed to show husbands & wives in bed together sleeping and rock & roll was evil! That has changed today only becasue the majority of people said no to the censorship. With every good advancement, you have to accept some bad. Better to control access than to outlaw uses we don't agree with. Prohibition outlawed drinking of alcohol. It made it worse, but illegal. The War on Drugs has not stopped illegal drug sales or use, they are higher than ever. It has created millions of criminals who we incarcerate in record numbers. The lesson is regulation & control don't nesesarily work, and may have the opposite effect.

As you stated - The Net has a plethora of information that is just mouse clicks away. The user must be aware of all the 'bad things' lurking out on the Net.
More and more children are getting on-line at school and at home. Below is a site everyone can use to be alert while on-line.

The internet allows you to have access to all the information in the world, and also to distribute information.
It is just a mightily powerful communication device.
Peadophiles and creeps have been using telephones to communicate for years - yet no-one is suggsting we close down the telephone system.

I think every email sent should be able to be tracked back to it's sending location. Then the people spamming with porno advertisements punished. Also software should come with an identity as to which computers it was modified on, and which location it was sent from, so viruses could be tracked back to the source. I love free information like Wikipedia and dictionary.com for example.

the benefits of the internet are massive. in this information age, it is infinitely easier to find out about whatever you want. as long as you surf carefully, don't download files or talk to people you don't know, don't go to sites you're not sure about, and have a decent virus blocking program on your computer (i suggest norton) you should be fine.

I think that the Internet is a pro. However, people will abuse it just like they abuse other things. People will take advantage of an opportunity when they see it.
