King Nebuchadnezzar (Babylonain Empire) attacked and captured Jerusalem (the capital of the kingdom of Judah (or the Southern Kingdom as it is sometimes referred as) in 586 B.C.

Destroyed by Babylon, who took the few survivors into captivity. Daniel was one of those captives.

There was a Judah under Rome, but that was never fully independent.

There are still a few decendents in Iraq, last I heard, but not very many.
