I would use a hand held steam cleaner. They are pretty good. I clean just about everything with mine.

use the good old fashioned bar soap for washing clothes, soak the bag in cold water then rub the soap on leave the bag free from water and let the soap sink in . after 1 hr put the back in to some tepid water give a good rub a bit more soap rinse well then hang outside to dry . If your lucky to have no rain , pouring down here in Spain

ive put canvas bags through the wash wrapped inside a pillowcase, they come out ok

I'd soak it in regular wash detergent and then scrub it with a little brush, rinse and hang it to dry but stretch out the wrinkles first .... and then steam it to make it presentable ....

Steep it overnight in warm soapy water, give it a bit of a rub to dislodge dirt and grime, rinse well and hang out to dry.
