No it can not be.
When there are ways of letting computers sift through phone calls and check the data stream to help identify threats, that would be moving towards a futuristic method. But then you get the left saying that their rights are being violated. I would agree if it were a person that was listening to my calls but not a computer.
As long as the liberals and more importantly the ACLU are active, we will never be able to get anything advanced put into place. When criminals and child molesters are set free because the judge thinks they are the victims, and it was all that little child's fault, they will fight anything more advanced as well.

The Department of Homeland Security appears to be way too big and way to confused to even handle a natural disaster, let alone a major terrorist attack. They still don't have their communications straightened out. It seems that our government doesn't trust the first line of aid when something happens. That would be the local citizens and the Red Cross. People helping people instead of martial law was the American way. Hopefully, they have improved a lot since Katrina. I am sure it is a major challenge to try to think of a plan for every conceivable scenario.

No, we're not ready. As much as president Bush used terrorism to take away certain freedoms, and as many "homeland security" agencies he's created, we're not ready.
His agenda was to create the biggest government we've ever had - and he's succeeded. Everyone seems to be okay with this.

No, and we can thank our Liberal Democrats in the House and the Senate for this! They can not even force themselves to insure the safety of the USA, just on the chance that President Bush might get some credit for it.
