Speaking as a Scot who has met people from a whole range of different countries - I have met snobby English people, I have met snobby Scottish people, I've met Snobby Americans, Welsh, Irish, French, Germans, Canadians, Australians, Mexicans, Poles and a few other nationalities, but to assume that all people from a specific country are snobs is a sweeping generaization which is completely unfounded.

The fact is most english people are not snobs. I admit that the class system in the UK probably resulted in more snobbishness than in most other countries, but thankfully snobbishness in this country is on the decline these days and has been for a long time (probably in parallel with the decline of the class system).

To sterotype a whole people as snobs shows a level of ignorance that you shouldn't be very proud of.

I do not think English people are snobby, I think its more a case of how English men conduct themselves and I do not include our looney soccer fans in this thought they are just a disgrace.
There is a quote from Joseph Goebbels speaking to his wife before they killed their kids when he wanted Magda to flee to west Germany and surrender to the British which he said that in a time of utter confusion and anarchy only the British behave as Gentlemen and keep a cool head.
This is not far from the mark, whats the first thing a brit does when the crap hits the fan? Puts the kettle on and has a cup of tea!
Britian had an Empire which had its good points and its bad and we sat over a world struggling to start its own democracies which we had been doing for a long time before and in a way America has done the same as the UK we know we are not perfect but we have the way of life and political freedom that makes us rise above the rest and its correct as democracy is the proven winner of all humanity

They're not.

I'm Welsh and my boyfriend is English and he's not snobby. He's lovely.

I know some really snobby Welsh people though, and Scots and Irish. There's good and bad in all countries but you're obviously too ignorant, immature and bigotted to know that.

I am English and I'm not snobby. I only turn my nose up because it itches when I come across ignorance like yours.

I think Scotland, Wales and Ireland are great nations by the way, but snobbishness is not exclusive to we English. Niether is ignorance.

Through their long imperial reign, the British developed a snobby attitude. It is essentially one of global superiority.

I don't think the English, as a nationality, are snobby. The English people I have met are very nice. I think their accents(because just like here in the Us, there are many of them) are charming. Some Americans might find the accents snobby, but I don't. I particularly enjoy the Liverpudlian accent (the Beatles)

The only time I find these accents snobby, is when they come out of the mouth of Americans. We have our own accents, and they are very recognizable and charming in their own way. Vive la Difference!

Why do you think that? I've never met a snobby English person. In fact they have been outgoing and friendly and I've enjoyed their company very much. Perhaps you are confusing reserved with snobby.

I lived in London for a year and I hate to say that the English (in general, not on the whole) were very snobby but a lot were. My friends were Australians and Irish, most English despised Americans... thought we were all stupid. Most of the older generations though were some of the warmest and kindest people I have ever met anywhere... so go figure.

But I'd go back to visit in a heartbeat. There's a lot of great people there... go to a pub, drink a pint.... after a few most aren't snobs.
