well the real question is, is hip hop in a whole negative?
lets see
you have idiots like ludacris, jeezy, joc, wayne, dipshit and all those other crappy modern day mainstream rappers who talking bout getting hoes, having money, cars and drugs and being gangsters saying **** like "i make it rain on them hoez, make it rain make it rain." or what ever that song says

then you got pac and his thug life
and for those who dont know The Hate U Give Lil Infants Fu cks Everybody, all of those positive songs by pac and a lot of older generation artist, for example keep ya head up and life goes on type of joints.

which basically comes out to modern day rappers, glorifying violence, drug use and basically anything they can consider or illegal to make them seem hardcore.

while the older generations was about awarness, respect and much more positive things.

so it all depends on what type of hip hop people are listening to and how you are interpreting it someone might interpretate modern day rap in a positive way and visa versa.

but bob would have no say, hip hop doesnt cause these things more then any other media, because hip hop originated from the storys of the street it is just much easier to blame it for all our problems then say rock or country.

Music Has Always been blamed for bad things that have or could have happened. When people are bad it contributes some as with many things but What about Church? Schools? Home life? Public - Society? and so forth.

Don't get me wrong calling women hoe's and talking about drugs and such isn't a great thing but then in the past recent past having a drink of whiskey or beer etc sort of fits into the same catagory.

I play hip-hop in my car, but the new stuff coming out is getting out of hand. Just nasty women talking about how bad they want a guy in them. I go back to the old school hip hop now more then anything. This new get "stupid while riding the yellow bus" crap is out of hand. Way more drug use and way more praising criminal behavior. Its just 3 mins of rapers saying how cool they are and everyone should be like me.

YES! I'm a teacher and I have to deal with kids trying to act like the hip-hop stars they see on tv. The language is horrible, they way the respect authority is terrible, and the way they speak is unintelligable. I wish there were more rap stars like Will Smith where the songs were clean and the stars dressed like gentlemen instead of thugs.

No, when are people going to quit blaming everything on entertainment. For decades now entertainment has always popped as the problem of our youth. Not long ago R&R was blamed for suicides and murders. Lack of disciplin and respect in are youth should be looked at before entertainment.
If parents of today wouldnt allow the television, video games and movies to raise and entertain their children we may not even have had to answer this question.

99% of it does and its terrible. I don't listen to any ignorant music in any genre and there is plenty in all of the other genres too.. Having said that, there are quite a few positive rap groups that use the genre to display poetry and send positive messages out to the world. Of course they don't get as much attention as the negative crap out there. Please non-rap fans understand that not all of it is negative, there are plenty of positive rap songs and rap artists out there. They are just harder to find.

The Roots, Jurassic 5, Floetry, Tribe Called Quest,De La Soul, and many more are part of something called the "Positive Rap Movement"

"Gangsta" Rap has gotten enough attention, we need to bring the art form back to where it originated. Fun, positive and intelligent.

All the responses that disagree with the OBVIOUS negative effects of rap on our culture fail to mention and account for rap's MASSIVE popularity. Punk music is harmless in comparison because it is largely unpopular. And yes, people have wrongly blamed music for societies problems in the past, such as Elvis, Jerry Lee, and Led Zepellin, but, honestly, can you really compare those greats with Ludacris? Mainstream rap is void of meaning, and can you really point out any POSITIVE attributes it has, such as those of Elvis?

in theory it might, but on the local level, i dont see any more violence than that that comes from the punks, and the "hard-rockers" of society.
