Darling you must Call environmental health in. Most councils do not charge for this service and will be able to tell if there is rats up in your loft area. Now darling whatever you do don't leave out food for them as someone has suggested to you. That will only encourage them to come in if you dont have them now. I hope darling you get this matter resolved. Good luck darling with your problem. Also darling if you do see one just bash it as hard as you can with something hard in order to kill it. None of this humane rubbish darling. This is vermon we are talking about here darling and it needs to be killed.

Had this very problem once, loads of droppings, called in environmental health, they put down poison, was never touched, started to floor board my attick and found I had bats.......E.H. didn't know the difference between bat and rat droppings, still have the bats at the mo, but I hope they'll go once I have lined the roof. If you tell people you have bats it's against the law to kill them. Go into the attick, without the lights on, use a torch and shine up into the rafters, you might see the bats, if you have them that is. Should find out or not, but don't forget to thoroughly wash your hands after.

Clean up all dropping and then check periodically to see if you see any more to know if they are still there or have been gone for a while. If they are still there put out rat traps and bait them with peanut butter.
Are you sure they are big enough to be rat dropping and not mice? If they are mice you need a much smaller trap than for rats.
There are also humane traps that catch the rats live and then you can release them somewhere in the country.
In any case check the traps daily to make sure the rat doesn.t stay there suffering.

well you could put a trap down , and for bate I would suggest some Spanish Chorizo sausage, it has such a strong smell they never pass this without having a nibble. there are lot´s of other thing´s you can buy . little sachets that contain poison but you don´t won´t dead mice around the house. they also dislike the smell of peppermint and mothballs so you could put lot´s of that around, set a trap and check every day to see if there any dead ones . also don´t invite them for lunch every day . mice only live where there is a fresh supply of food. So make sure there is no food left around for them to eat . sweep the kitchen floor. if you have out houses , shed´s .and keep potatoes or bulbs for planting soap candles , anything really they could use or eat, as they use and eat almost anything, try put thing´s into tight fitting container´s. they are cleaver little devils but cause a lot of damage if left to live in your house . if all fails I would call someone like rent-a-kill.

It could also be a squirrel. They frequently spend the night in attics, and you hear them in the morning and night as they come and go. They can enter through very small holes. It is a common problem and they can be easily caught with a trap. Check out the havahart trap website. http://www.havahart.com/

Rat are universally reviled. there have been some well-known mice, Mickey, powerful and speedy Gonzalez, yet quite usually they are pests. the most well-known squirrel, is Rocket J. (Rocky) Squirrel, who with Bullwinkle the Moose, risked existence and liberty enticing in risky counterintelligence artwork hostile to the KGB in the course of the chilly conflict. In his income, all squirrels are commemorated.

On the market today there is a environmentally friendly sonic alarm, to combat any vermin infestation, all it requires is to be plugged in a electric socket, it will last for years, will not affect household pets or humans .

I have rats in my bedroom.....they live in a cage and have names. Rats wild or tame do not attack humans, they are scared of us. I would say its more likely to be BATS in your loft or mice as rats would go where the food is , and unless you have food in your loft its unlikely. Bats are protected so be careful if you put anything down to kill them. Bats do not attack humans either.
