I need to cash a check that is made out to a fund that doesn't technically exist?

I am doing fundraising for my cousin's family and have called it a fund. Most people have been writing checks to me and I will turn over the money to my cousin, but unfortunately I have gotten a few checks written out to the fund, which doesn't technically exist. Will I be able to cash them by signing my name, or do I need to go through all of the extensive paperwork to create the fund before I can get the money from the checks?

If possible, ask the people to make another check and explain the situation. Next time be more clear!
Yes you could create the fund but like you said, it's paperwork so this means time!
I doubt you could change the checks with your name but ask at places where they agree to change the check in advance just in case ;-)
