Well, you have to define pornography.

Due to exceedignly bad legislation passed by an incompetent government, there have been various attempts to re-classify mere eroticism as pornography.

So we are possibly in the absurd position where, (by way of example), it is quite legal to have the WHOLE of a film such as
"Greystoke of Tarzan" which shows a naked-boy in the jungle, yet quite illegal to have a single frame of it as a phoptographic-still, unless one happened to be a student of films.

These are the sort of dilemmas into which governments and pressure-groups are drawn, and even the best efforts of people would not, and could not prevent such imagery being potrayed.

The "upper classes" always preferred "great art" as pornography, under the pre-text that it was worthy and wholesome, whilst lesser people felt obliged to cover grand-piano legs because they suggested the image of naked females.

In any event, with so much pornography having flooded the internet, what chance has anyone of banning it?

It would merely become lucrative under-counter trade.

It's the sort of thing weak governments do when they allow single-issue campaigners and the gutter-press to decide what is acceptable and what is not.

Fortunately, we in the west have a long tradition of pornography and erotic-art.

Firstly, all obscene publications in the UK are banned - see Obscene Publications Act which has been held to cover internet sites.

But it ain't going to happen because the porn industry pays a lot of tax to the UK govt. and also provides a lot of work. 45% of all DVDs sold in the UK are porn

I don't think much would happen if the public supported such a move - but I for one would love the country ASAP - I don't mind them banning pictures of nudity, but all pictures of women aged 18-30, no matter what they are wearing - that's something I couldn't live without.

People would look at foreign based web sites, the UK govt has no jurisdiction there.

Not much since it was illegal until recently anyway. People would just go back to bringing DVDs back from overseas or buying bootlegged copies.
