By "non-traditional" conservatives I am thinking you are talking about the neo-conservatives and/or the relligious right.

Personally, I think this group of people take politics very personally. (There are also people on the left that take politics personally too BUT we are just talking about conservatives here.)
These people take a political "loss" much more personally and actually take pleasure when the other side slips or falls. Because of this they do not want to admit flaws in their leaders and policies because they think it would make them appear hypocritical and mean-spirited when they criticize their opponents. So they usually ignore the problems that there politicians have. Of course, they still look hypocritical and mean-spirited to objective people.

To me its like sports. There are some people that live and die with a particular team and they absolutely hate that team's rival... they absolutely will not criticize their own team (no matter how bad it is) but point out the same flaws with their rival without seeing the problems with their own players. Most people are more practical, they like the team but they are more objective, not as rabid. These objective people may like a particular team more than the others but they can see the abilities of the other teams... and can actually root for those players (on other teams).

I don't know whether I am a traditional or non-traditional conservative. What I do readily admit is that nobody we elect will be perfect. The difference that I see is that conservative organizations are looking for accountability. A politician is a politician. Hillary would put on her conservative face if her constituency was predominately conservative. I see liberals accepting a lower standard of behavior from their leaders. You get what you are willing to accept. I don't have a problem with liberals identifying corrupt Republicans. They should be identified and held accountable. The liberals just aren't interested in seeing their politicians receive the same scrutiny and treatment. They are willing to accept some blemishes in order to advance their cause. The reason many conservative voters stayed home in November was they saw the Republicans acting the same way. There were no acceptable candidates for whom to vote. Is it a weakness to demand integrity from your leaders?

I've never heard the term "non-traditional conservative," so I can't speak to that. However as a conservative, I have never expected our politicians to be perfect. I have expected them to be the best they can be and hold them accountable when they fail that criteria. Unfortunately, more and more polititicians on BOTH sides of the political aisle seem to be not even trying anymore.

Perfection? Who ever told you politicians were perfect? Of course ours are not...any more than yours are. They are men holding public office, not the Second Coming.

As non-traditional liberals were so willing to admit what a pervert Bill Clinton was. One scandal after another, and every Liberal in America was on television defending him night after night after night...
