Gwyneth Paltrow for " Shakespeare in Love". I think Kate could have done a good job in the role and plus she looks better naked.
Julia Roberts also turned down the part (Thank God) I don't think she would have been very good in that role. I just can't see her reciting Shakespeare elegantly she just is not right for those type of roles.
"American Beauty" came out in 2000 and won its awards in 2001. The part went to Annette Benning but Hilary Swank won the Oscar for "Boys Don't Cry". I think Kate was and still is too young for that part, she does not look like she could be the mother of a teenage daughter. I don't think the part was offered to her but her husband did direct the movie so maybe she had a shot.
