Many women, if not most, do NOT have a 'textbook" cycle where ovulation comes at Day 14 or so and the whole cycle last 28 days. Especially if you have irregular cycles, Day COunting is just NOT helpful. Even if a woman had a textbook cycle, Day COunting would not guarantee she was ovulating 2 weeks before her next period or tell her anything about how FERTILE she really is (that her luteal phase is long enough, or that she has enough fertile CF or when she has it, if she had enough progesterone, or if she's even ovulating...it's possible to have "regular" cycles in terms of length and still NOT be ovulating!).

I highly recommend charting your fertility signs. Your chart can tell you when you are fertile, when you are not, when you are ovulating, when to expect your next period, and when to suspect pregnancy. Your chart can also tell you if there are issues delaying conception or causing difficulty w/ carrying a pregnancy and if there are serious issues which need a doc's attention.

Some good sources for charting your fertility signs: Fertilityfriend.com (free software as well as a pay-for version and on-line charting turorial); ovusoft.com (discussion boards for many fertility related issues, much info on fertility after the pill, and a very good software for purchase). The books Taking Charge of Your Fertility (associated w/ the the ovusoft website and software), The Art of Natural Family Planning, and Garden of Fertility

You can try several things. Use a ovulation calendar just to get a general idea of about when you would be ovulating. Then buy an ovulation predictor kit. That will tell you when you will ovulate. Have sex every day or every other day during the time you are ovulating. Good luck!

You can calculate your cycle based on charting your cervical mucus. This method works even with irregular periods. Check out the Justisse Method. They have a web site at Justisse.ca.
This is very reliable method of predicting ovulation and is easy to get the hang of.

You can try an ovulation kit or you can just go for broke and have sex every other day until you get pregnant.
