When you say extinguish are you wanting to turn the diamond into glass or stone?

Or do you mean distinguish it from glass or stone? If that is the case take the diamond and make a small scratch in glass or mirror. Diamonds will make scratches on glass, but glass will not make scratches on glass.

A Diamond can cut through glass it is stronger than anything else, take a glass and run the "diamond' across the surface, if it scratches it or the 'diamond' breaks then it is not real

Diamonds are a lot denser than glass. Determine density and you will know.
