John McCain is definately a hero. Not many people could withstand being a POW. Not only did he withstand it but he sent messages using his eyes and did not give in to the enemy. A hero. I don't think he would be a great president though.

War Hero yes, but political zero as well. John McCain is currently pushing for amnesty for up to 20 million illegals via cosponsorship of the "McCain/Kennedy Immigration reform bill".

McCain is no conservative, he is against tax cuts despite the fact they have always helped the economy under Presidents John F Kennedy, Ronald Reagan, and George Bush.

McCain is pandering to the radical Gorites in talking of "Carbon Caps" which would basically destroy the US economy in favor of political correctness, even as China (the world's worst polluter) is left untouched.

Senator McCain is a good, although misguided, man. He seems to not be able to decide if he is a Republican or Democrat. He claims to be conservative, but is rather a Liberal Republican willing to sell his party out for the favor of Liberals.

How anyone could lable him a zero is beyond belief. To have served his country and endured what he did definitely rates him a hero status. No matter what your politics or beliefs, can't some of you at least give the man credit for that? He went through and SURVIVED what most couldn't. For crying out loud, at least have a little respect.

Zero loyalty, zero ethics, and zero character.

This must be why McCain survived the torture of Vietnam; he didn't "resist with strength", he knuckled under and told them what they wanted to hear. He's now willing to say _anything_ that will keep him alive politically, including selling out his country or betraying those who's side he's supposed to be on.

He should change his name to John McGainsaying, because he'll say anything to contradict a critic or appeal to an audience.

Please...WE live into such a "WHAT HAVE YOU DONE FOR ME LATELY" society. Nothing he says today will ever take away the fact that he was a combat veteran who stayed with his men in their time of need. Regardless of any dumb rhetoric...nothing will ever take away his hero status. I wouldn't vote for him for President but in his time at Vietnam he didn't chose the easy route. So his past act of Bravery makes him a HERO.

He was a hero to the men who suffered horribly with him as POWs in Vietnam.

He is a zero now to anyone who wants a leader with integrity who does not change his position to suit the political winds.

I'd take McCain over any other major candidate running to date.

The greatest American hero in politics today, that does not mean he is presidential material.

But it definitely means he deserves our respect and gratitude.

Unfortunately, he is not what he used to be. He once called the religious right hateful bigots, but now he schmoozes them. I'm afraid Guliani is the ONLY Republican worth a look.
