Imagine you've got a window showing an A4 piece of paper of 210x297mm (portrait), It shows it all squeezed in proportionately to 105x297 and this applies to all her windows. How does she get out of this so the windows are normal in their perspective?

Looks like she has reset her screen size. Right click on blank part of the background select properties then settings. try setting screen resolution to 800 x 600.

at the bottom of the screen right hand side do you see a magnify icon well it should say 100% im thinking this has been altered just click it back up for her if this is not the case there should be 4 buttons under her screen to alter the screen settings.you can also try start then control panel then display then settings this is for screen resolution

click on view at the top left of the screen and go down to text size and click on medium.see if that helps.if not type PC HELP into google and join a free forum they will sort you out !

If it is a CRT monitor it sounds like somebody has been fiddling with the controls.
