Thank you to those who have answered so far, now I must own up, I wanted to see what your reaction would be to my question. The truth of the matter is I do think the royal family are a waste of time in this day and age, i have met a few of them, and they are nice to talk to, and yes I will bow, not because she is the Queen, but because of the reason we are meeting her, and out of the respect of those who lost there lives.
If only the royal family would get in touch with real life, then they may earn the respect they once had.

no you don't have to bow, it is not obligatory. You won't get chucked in the tower or anything like that. You may get some frosty looks from everyone else but heck, that's their problem. I wouldn't bow either.
Nothing against the royals but I think society has moved on from tugging one's forelock when the squire trotted past on his horse to examine the peasants ...

If thatsthe ringo i dont think it is then you dont know the drill..you can bow and ladies curtsey but no touching ..or youll have your drinks taken off you..given a couple of well placed slaps and escorted off the premises..and if you want to come back have to opologise to the girl herself and the manager...dont touch...
unless she holds her hand out for a handshake which she may well do....thats when you bow at the same time .the bow is similar to the one in martial arts where you bend from the waist keep your head up andkeep your eye on the opponent at all times.. accompany this with a perfectly timbred maam its an honour and a privilige...dont be suprised at how small she is, shes like a china doll...
and you should make the finger buffet!!
if for any reason like dropping a glass on her foot...she shouts ****.. do so immidiatley,,, **** said the queen and 10000 arseholes strained to obey.
God bless the queen shes all weve got left ..the ragheads have got the country...

Well.................she will have more respect for you than you have for her as you will mean something to her. The Queen meets lots of people from different walks of life and there are very few that she has not taken the time to find out about. So Just for once show her some respect for a job well done.

And does your remark 'Just Another Human Being' mean you don't repect your fellow man of course not. So if you cannot respect her for being the Queen then show her respect as a fellow human being.

Thank you!

It is etiquette to bow to the Queen but not compulsory.

As for having no respect for her, look at it this way, she is the only person who stands between the idiot Blair and absolute power in the UK. That in my book deserves respect in itself

respect is given to those who earn it, the royal family is totally disfunctional, you only have to look at the way the queen reacted to the little girl with David beckham she had no idea what to do, all it needed was for her to bend down and touch the little girls hand and say Thank you no compassion there, perhaps a little time spent with the real people of this nation she may be able to converse with us,

Her job is almost certainly more difficult than yours, if only because she gets criticised in the media all the time. If you need a reason to bow, do it out of respect for how she hasn't actually gone mad from the pressure and called for anyone to have their head chopped off. Henry VIII didn't have as much b***s*** to deal with as the queen does.

I have no time for royalty in general, but I have no problem with the queen or her family as such.

I agree with some of the others in that I feel you should bow out of respect for her age if nothing else. She is in a vastly superior position to yourself so if you don't want to look like a rude plonker, then I would suggest you bow.
Nobody will think good of you if you rebel, just what a **** you are.
By not bowing you will achieve absolutely nothing positive.

i'm particular he has reliable intentions and that he truly likes you.. yet um he sounds a touch creepy. Like one among those adult males which will abuse, stalk, and harass you 24/7. type of awkward. i could stay away from him as a lot as accessible

If you dont respect her, dont be 2 faced and go, if you have to go, have the decency to show her some respect, she is royalty after all, presume your on a higher plane perhaps? Emporer Ringo, lord of the universe?

I suspect for all the sickening aspect of this question, your hypocrisy and going out of self interest, that you WILL bow before Her August Majesty. You just won't have the b****s to come back and tell us.
