For instance, the Haber process

A piece of equipment is required to increase the pressure of the gas in the Haber process, which in this case is known as a compressor or blower. The compressor cost money to manufacture i.e capital cost and in its operation (the amount of electricity it consumes during its operation) i.e operating cost. The piece of equipment also needs maintenance and repair, which also costs money (maintenance cost). If the gas was at room temperature then no compressor is required and therefore the capital cost, operating cost and maintenance cost will be less. Also all piping and equipment such as vessels and storage tanks needs to be thicker in order to prevent the equipment from blowing out due to high pressure which increases capital cost dramatically and therefore the toatl cost of the manufacture of the plant.

My experience as a chemical engineer tells me that generating high pressure is very expensive, and is avoided if possible
