one thing to take into consideration is that white white reflects light (heat) and colors, the darker they are, obsorb more heat. so without ever experimenting this and assuming the waxes are the same but different colors, yes, colored candles burn faster.

Get some candles in a variety of colors that are all the same size and make-up (ie beeswax or parafin). Burn them for a predetermined amount of time. Collect the metled wax a weigh it. This will tell you which burns faster. It will also give you a nice chart to put in your science fair presentation.

As far as why, that is a much tougher question. There is going to be variability due to coloring agent used, any scent that may be in the candle, even wick composition can have an effect. you'll have to make reasonable guesses based on the information you gather, but it should make for a good project.

White candles regularly do burn swifter because of the fact the dye in colored candles coats the wick and makes them burn slower. White candles are in basic terms organic wax which burns extra somewhat.

That depends upon the physical and chemical characteristics of each candle. If the coloring agent burns faster or slower than the wax, it may influence burning time.

What you might compare is beeswax versus paraffin. It is always best to define the variables.
