I am a Republican that supports the right to choose - but not for birth control. I think you may be generalizing. I also support our President & troops 100%.

wha? - last time I checked our military is volunteer - so yes they do have a choice.

edit: OK maybe not a broad generalization - maybe I am the only one - or at least very few. My issue is that abortion should not be legal for birth control reasons - that's irresponsible. In cases where rape or health is an issue then it should be legal.

Its a choise of what kind of country you want to live in . A country were women are forced to give birth against there own will or a country were people can choose to abort. What war casualties are the screaming about . The US military being there that at least are armed and trained to be able to protect themself or all those Iraqi civilian . Kids , women and men. Why isnt US feeling any concern about all the Iraqis dieng in the war? Isnt Iraqis lifes worth something for an american ?

To "pink-ange": Do you really think that the thousands of abortions performed in America every month are for the purpose of saving the life of the mother?

I think most informed people will understand and accept that the vast majority of abortions performed today are because the mother "found" she was pregnant and didn't want to be "pregnant", hence she gets an abortion to solve the "problem" of "being pregnant".

That being said, one has to make a number of assumptions about abortion and the unborn fetus in order to address the question. My beliefs and assumptions are my own and I won't discuss them here.

There are far too many others examples of unneccessary deaths that could be referred to.

The number of murders committed annually by illegal aliens. The number of drug related deaths caused by our country's failure to secure our borders. The number of deaths caused by teenagers being allowed to drive before they are capable of the responsibilities of driving.

My primary view is that in a war, people die. It is horrible and something that many cannot confront. But that is what war is about...killing people and destroying things. At least, deaths in that arena are somehow understandable in reference to the activity.

But unneccessary deaths caused by "accepted" situations right here in America that no one seems to care about one way or the other...that bothers me.

Too right, pink_angel. Nobody does, and if they do, they're sick. And on the other extreme, what makes a-clinic bombers any better than suicide bombers? There are two different directions of the extreme. I stay away from both, thank you.

Your argument is flawed, they are 2 different issues. It is like saying that automobile accidents/deaths are awful but wanting a boycott of cars. You are not real bright

Because they see everything in terms of convenience. They like the idea of sleeping around, but they don't like the fact that sex causes pregnancies.

To the person who said nobody believes in abortion as birth control, what else would you call it? Once you subtract the 1% which are cases of rape and incest, you're left with 99% which are strictly because a woman chooses not to become a mother. IMO, the time to decide that would have been BEFORE she went to bed with the guy.

Ok, kids, we'll be covering "non sequitur" tomorrow. Now, take your pills and unroll your mats. It's nap time!

Women must have a choice over their own bodies, soldiers and other casualties of war rarely have such a choice. Abortion is not a form of birth control nor is it murder.

Hmm, is there a difference between a fertilized egg that has no consciousness, and a real live person who can think and feel and suffer?

Apparently, to conservatives, the only difference is that the feritilized egg is sacred and must be saved, but the real live humans are trash that can be destroyed (at least if they are non-American citizens).
