veritas : you seroiusly expect people to belive that every other news channel is part of a left-wing communist conspiracy, and that fox is the minority of one telling the truth? And 'patrioctic news channel' : you've just proved my argument, news channels are supposed to report the news, not pursue an agenda.

Sadly many people do.

In fact studies have shown that many Americans like to receive the news slanted towards their own political views. Since American TV is all about ratings Fox News found if they pandered to the radical Christian right, more people who think like that tuned in, their ratings went up, and they could make more money from advertising.

As a foreign visitor to America I can quite understand how amazed you were at the standard of the news. I've lived in America for seven years, and to this day I am still amazed at what a horrible job the cable news channels do. They don't report what is really going on in the world, they merely spoon feed people opinions and propaganda. Whatever they think will get them maximum ratings. It's pretty scary.

One wonders what kind of country America would be if they reported real news items. Until that time, there's always the Daily Show, now that's a good news show.

The obvious counter to this, is that, is anyone stupid enough to believe that most of the other channels are anything other than left wing propaganda. You are probably not used to hearing patriotic news channels, there are so few of them, and in Britain, none.

Re additional info.
'Outwardly', I am mainly referring to Britain, because the same principles apply. I make no mention of the word 'Communist'. These days, the term 'left wing' is something of an umbrella term covering 'the old left', PC, feminism, and multiculturalism for example. You have had no problem in labelling 'Fox News' as 'right wing'. I would counter this by stating that it is only being patriotic, and, therefore, not right wing. I have argued, that in this country, there is no Fox news equivalent, and by my measure terrestrial channels 1 through 5 are a bit left of centre. But we are into semantics and definitions here. I believe for example, in America, that CNN is a bit left of centre you obviously don't. Also, TV news channels these days, do report the news, but they put their own particular political spin on some of the items. The BBC, for example, admits that it is left wing.

So, I stand by what I say as regards British TV, but I accept, that I can not speak authoritively on all the TV channels in America, but I do know about Fox News.

If you don't like my point, ignore it, you don't have to get so excited about it.

I just had an argument with a buddy of mine over beers the other night. I know it's a bad idea to talk politics (especially while drinking), but when he said that O'Reilly is a moderate I just couldn't let it slide. At least he acknowledges that Limbaugh is nothing more than an entertainer, but perhaps only because O'Reilly says the same thing. Either way it's embarrassing.

Sadly many Americans do.

However it must be said that these Americans are usually ones who hold the same right wing views as the news channel does.

My daughters' American grandad watches Fox as he believes CNN is too biased, but then he voted for Bush, twice.

if you repeat a big lie long enough sooner or later people will believe...yes, American news is so phony and the news should just give the news..not add their two cents worth..

As Murdoch has already admitted it publicly, only a fool could argue otherwise. But then that's their prime demographic.
