The best way - and a way I had used in the past is actually using a site like Yahoo! Groups. Post information about upcoming books that will be read in the files section. This will allow everyone to read what everyone thinks without having to go through 60 emails and sorting them. (The thread feature is handy for this - other group sites).

You'll also be able to setup a chat after a time to get everyone's thoughts on the group. You can also setup a number of groups for different types of books (if u read more than one book at a time and can have 2-3 or more done in a 2week to a month period).

Below are three good groups site you could easily start a book club.

I have to agree with the Yahoo! Groups. I began a book club using Yahoo. It has a voting option which I found great for our group. I list 10-15 books for us to choose from, and the group votes on which they want to read. We organize 3 months at a time. When I began the group, I sent emails to those I wanted to join (friends and family that don't live nearby), however, I didn't get as big as response as I wanted, so I opened it to anyone. That's another great feature. You can let anyone join, or just those that you choose. It's also fun to have the group rate the book they read using the same voting function.

You should decide what type of books you're going to read to get members to join that are really interested (classics, contemporary, best sellers, combination) and list the types of books that you won't consider (science fiction, Danielle Steel, etc). If you design the group with some boundaries, it really helps to run it smoothly and with people that really want to be there. Best of luck!

I agree that Yahoo Groups is the best way to go. Google groups is okay, but does not match the whole functionality of Yahoo Groups. If everyone has a video-cam, you could try Stickam.com for fun, but I think Yahoo Groups is the way to go.
