First, come of the diet, decide instead that you are changing your lifestyle for a more healthy one. Diets are often temporary and when you stop dieting the weight will go back on. That said, in a restaurant, Vegetables and lots of them, but if you have soup as a starter rather than salad you are likely to eat less during the rest of the meal so that is always a consideration. Fish and chicken are lower in calories than red meat. Vegetarian dishes, though likely to have a lot of vegetables aren't always light on calories. Don't be afraid to ask whats in things or how they are cooked.

Don't go to the resturant hungry. It's a mistake a lot of people make. If you were a Weight Watchers member I'd say have a bowl of no point soup just before leaving. If you are hungry when you get there you will make silly choice. If you know where you are going see if you can get a look at the menu before hand so you can decide what you are going to have before you go in and won't be tempted by lots of high calorie choices. Also don't be caught in the "I've paid for it I'm eating it trap" it's just as wasteful if it's around your waist as in the waste and around your waist it will annoy you for much longer.

If you are having wine have a glass of water as well. If you are thirsty, drink the water, if you want to taste the wine, taste the wine.

If you are a desert person and you know you are going to have to have a huge slice of chocolate gateux with cream. Accept it's going to happen. Otherwise you will feel deprived and miserable and you won't stick with the plan. Other than that go for fruit salad if it is an option.

Finally remember, unless you eat out about 4 times a week, then it's not what you eat in resturants which caused you to have a weight problem. In your new healthy eating regime, one night isn't going to hurt.

Enjoy your meal.

Forget about your diet when you go out for a meal. One 'bad' meal a week isn't going to make too much of a negative impact.

This approach should help you stick to your diet in the long term, also, eating out with people on diets can be really boring!

Eat in moderation, incorporate a lot of vegetables and white meat. A takeaway isn't really the most healthiest option in the first place!

Grilled or oven baked fish, like salmon or trout with no sauce, vegetables, jacket potato etc. Alternatively try pasta without sauces, with salad, vegetables etc. Grilled meat like lean steak is also okay for you if you eat it sensibly with vegetables or salad. Just remember though that a little of what you fancy does you good and as long as you are eating healthily most of the time and exercising, then the odd slip wont hurt you. Enjoy!

It has been proven that people who eat soup (any type) at the start of a meal consume less calories overall.

Go for the salads! Also, stay away from pop and other sugary drinks. Avoiding greasy fries, burgers, and other obviously unhealthy foods is key.

Bannana Sandwitch is healthy, low fat bread,
raisins, dryed fruit (or normal fruit), salads,
cabbage or lettuce ( almost any veg), rice cakes, Flora Light ( low fat butter) and quite a few other foods!
