1) change your nick, thts depressing
2) change your attitude towards yourself, atleast you can be sure about you being the best most treasurable person on earth cos if you die every thing else dies for you, if something else dies the rest of the world is still there for you, so you are very very precious
3) feeling sad is only a sign of very happy moments about to fall upon you, so everytime you feel sad, feel happy from inside because you know something good is waiting to happen
4) go for a walk when its 0 degrees, the wind takes away all the tension
5) no kid is a burden on family even if parents say they are, inside they think no kids means no life
6) talk to your friends about anything at all, and when you know someone is listening to you, then you are definitely nto worthless
7) funk is a pretty exciting word used here so i saw you are getting out of this "funk" by the end of question anyway so cheer up :D

Not that I want to sound like a fanatic or anything, but attend a church this Sunday. I searched for years for a way out of my funk, and I was always looking for something that I couldn't find. When I got saved Jesus filled that hole and though I still have normal problems and stress. I know I can trust him to help lighten the load.
Hope you feel better
God Bless

Volunteering does wonders for the soul. It will certainly take care of that feeling of worthlessness. Helping others will bring good things to you and the people you are helping. It is like a perfume you cannot pour upon others without getting a little on yourself. There are many ways to volunteer... you could start with your local yellow pages under 'volunteering'.
Here are a couple of sites that allow you to search for volunteering opportunities by location and by interest:
http://www.networkforgood.org/volunteer/
http://www.usafreedomcorps.gov/for_volunteers/find_opps/index.asp
Also, aerobic activity has proven to be the most effective and most immediate treatment for depression. Move around and get your heart rate up. Your mind and body both, will benefit.
Take care...

Welcome to the wonderful world of depression. I have suffered from it most of my life. The only way I feel better is if I get out of the house and do stuff. Even if it's just a simple trip to the store or something. If its winter and cold where you are, try going to the tanner, that helps a lot too!
You may also want to talk to your doctor about an antidepressant if it gets out of control. Get things to look forward to and don't feel sorry for yourself!
Summer will be here soon enough.

I have suffered from depression for many years and nothing worked better for me than prayer. if you are able join a local church and do something positive. If for some reason you are physically unable then i suggest reading the bible. We all have a purpose in this world.!
