Gagne is the man to close games. The Texas Rangers paid 6 mil. to bring in this man as a long term closer. He his healthy and ready to go. They are not going to put a man a few years removed from 3 straight 45+ save season in the setup position. Certainly Akinori Otsuka is there for insurance if anything does happen to Gagne, and Otsuka is a solid closer who could be closing on many baseball teams right now. But Gagne is for sure the closer for the Rangers this season.

Gagne will begin the year Texas' closer. If he struggles badly, Otsuka will be given the closer role again. Otsuka will also take over if Gagne reinjures himself. All in all though, I am optimistic about Gagne and I hope that he does well. If he's 50% of what he used to be, he'll be good. But it's 50/50 at this point in time.

I would put smart money on Otsuka...i wouldnt put any confidence in pitchers like Gagne, Prior, Pavano and Wood.

Otsuka had an impressive performance last season. Why would they take the closer role away from him when he was doing well?

Texas didnt pay Gagne $6M to be a set up man just like Angels didnt pay Gary Mathew Jr. $10M a year to answer steroid probes.

Gagne.

They ddin't give Gange $6 mil to set up for Otsuka. He'll start off as closer ...especially when you have Washington saying such things as : ""I don't want to give any American League team a look if they don't have to have a look," Washington said. "If they don't know anything about him, I like that. They're only going to get one look at him anyway."

Not the type of thing you're likely to care about if you're describing a set up man.

Mr. 5 million dollar man Gagne!!!

I'm a Dodgers Blue fan myself and am HIGHLY upset that he left LA. LA stood by him the last couple of years and ALL the fans LOVED that guy, but yet he wanted more money and left!
