Load balancing is used to Manage Load on Servers using Intelligence.Apache web server has mod_jk module which comes with options for load balancing.
Load Balancing is done by algorithms which decide on where and whom to allocate work ...kinda what your manager does (he does it to you more often than others but thats ok.. ) to allocate work.
Some of the Load Balancing Algorithms include Round-Robin ,Weight-Based et all. If you need more info ...ask.
