It featured a young king called King Zar(sp) and he had friends that helped him along the way. I can't recall the actual title but I remember that it was a beautiful picture book and now I would like to have a copy for my children. Does anyone recognize this?

There are many nice things about being a king. But there is one very bad thing. That is, that it is very hard to find a job if you are out of work. All that a king can do is rule. And if you have no kingdom, then you are out of work. That is what happened to young King Zar.

I do not and I amquite familiar of children's books- especially picture books and I both wrirte and read them.
I will give you a couple favorites of mine:

*****The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein - very very nice
**** Paddle To The Sea by? great for boys - adventure story of a
little hand made canoe that travels from mountain to
great lakes when the winter snow melts.
