Florida, the Spanish first landed there in 1513. Juan Ponce de Leon discovered it while searching for the fountain of youth. He returned in 1521 with people to help set up a colony but was driven of by local tribes. In 1528 Narvae landed near present day Tampa but met the same result. Hernando de Soto passed through Florida in 1539 and Tristán de Luna y Arellano established another brief settlement in Pensacola that was abandoned in 1561.
