One hears from the far right about how bad both are. Both are constantly derided by the popular conservative entertainment media.

The amish, too, believe both are bad for their children, so, they have no radio and television media, and, do not permit their children to attend school after the 8th grade. They live, as most know, the lives of the average person in the 19th century. They also have a commitment to family and their religous beliefs unparalleled when compared to other communities in this country. Do far right conservatives wish to return to the 19th century? What say you?

Is that you dad?. Seriously, that's the way my parents believed for me and my two brothers, but not my sister and older brother. Sure is hard to fit in the real world when you grow up that way and determine in the real world your going nowhere. I don't think the "good ole day's" were all that good.

It is in the nation’s best interest (the common good) to have an educated and informed voting public. In fact, it is one of the founding principles of our nation. Toward this end, the government is responsible for assuring that both institutions are healthy and available to the general public.

Both are under attack by the conservative Christian right who wish undermine the US Constitution so that America’s secular democratic republic can be replaced by a fascist theocracy based on the judgmental and humanity-hating doctrine of their Old Testament God.

The most respected news agency in the world is the BBC. They provide the most objective news reporting because they do not have to compete in the market place in order to exist. News is biased by influence and popular public opinion to the extent that it is invested in commercial activities and dependent on commercial success in order to survive.

This should be a clue to all poorly educated people about the nature of the news and information they are receiving. If your favorite news personality spends time on their show advertising and selling products, then they are really entertainment and business personalities who have nothing to do with journalism or the dissemination of objective news information.

No one thinks they should be banned. The media should be unbiased, and education should be privatized. There should be no government intervention in either. I do not wish to return to the 19th century, I want my federal government to return to the ideals of the 18th.

Edit: NO, it is NOT the federal government's job to educate the masses. Thanks to standardized, socialized education, everyone's graduating with the same level of education and no practical work skills. Is it any wonder no one can "find" a job? Someone's got to create them! If our current system of education worked so well, we wouldn't have "Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader" on television right now, would we?

The modern economy is based on the specialization of the workforce. The market sets the curriculum. We're talking trade schools here, from the Kindergarden level up. The market will dictate which schools get the most funding. For instance, doctors are in high demand. A school geared towards medicine would have a high application rate. High demand would garner high tuition fees. High fees would provide the funds to buy the top equipment. Graduates from the best schools would be in high demand, translating into higher salaries. When they have children, they'll more than likely send them to their alma mater. Their added demand, backed by their higher wages increase the tuition bill, increasing funding for the latest tech....

The schools producing graduates with poor skills struggle and eventually go under. Those schools that excel thrive and expand.

Schools tailored towards low paying/low skilled jobs (and lets face it, not everyone is cut out to be doctors and lawyers) will have to compete with each other by providing larger classrooms and lower tuition fees....the Wal-Mart of education (I mean that in a good way: Efficient and cheap)

Anyone who wishes to boost education in any area would be more than welcome to make donations and or scholarships, just like universities. It's no accident the best universities in the country are private.

I don't believe in censorship in any shape or form.
Therefore, I don't believe that banning anything from the people is right.
NO ONE has the right to tell anyone else how to live, what to do, how to raise their family, ect.
If you (not the author of the question, just people in general) don't like the media, education, books, technology, or even hamburgers, that is your choice and your choice alone. You have no right to tell others what they will like and dislike, or permit and not permit in their lives.

Bottom line:
No, I strongly disagree with banning anything from the public. If you are conservative, fine. If you're liberal, fine. As long as you don't force others to follow your rules and believe in your ideas, then do whatever you want.

What say I? You make a good point. Though, while deriding the Conservative politic for destroying education, study up on the "No Child Left Behind Program" established by the Bush Administration. While Clinton (really Hilary, because we all know Bill was too busy getting blown to pay attention to anything else) was busy failing to develop health care programs, finking out on terrorism in Somalia and, in general, being a dismal failure who had had great promise. Why don't you comment on the Leftist (Liberal - used to be Communist; remember them?) movement to redistribute wealth, reestablish the Affirmative Action mess and, in general, dumb down and castrate America. Remember, it was Clinton and Carter who emasculated the military and destroyed the budgets for intelligence in the name of political correctness (Spy? The world might get angry at America if we spy.)

The answer to your question, really, is you, like most Liberal defeatists, are naive and make me sad.

I have never heard anyone say education should be banned. In regards to the media, I think that career field is far over staffed and too many opinion makers are out there. I am tired of watching the opinions and agendas. I want facts, and both sides of the story. We should never ban the media, just get it to be truthful is all I'm looking for.

Ya ban the media and close the schools we will have computers for another 10 years and that will go too then you won't be using yahoo answers to ask questions.

Education needs to improve and media needs to be responsible.

Proper syllabus have to be selected for education and make the children learn about science in school and about God in Church don't take the Church to school.

Sure give your child only and 8th grade education and he can stay home and you support him his whole life. Dont be ridiculous of course we cant ban education. The Amish dont need education to farm their land our children do need it to be doctors and lawyers, and what ever they choose to be. The media is the only thing that makes sure we know what our government is doing-without it we would all be in the dark about how they spend our money and what they are trying to do to us next.

You're right. It's better to keep people ignorant and uneducated. If you are the only source of information and wisdom, they'll believe everything you tell them. Easier to get them to do what you want, like vote for Bush, twice.
