I'm 20yrs old and in the marine reserves. I have no idea of what to do with my life. I want to attend college but feel that its pointless if I don't know what I want to be.

My friend ,
You do not go to college to be. You already are.

Go to school to become educated. Take courses that you like and capture your imagination.
Do not go to school to get a job. Go to school to get educated.

Once you have an education you will better understand what it is , will make you happy. Follow your bliss.

It can be...if you dont know what you want to do. We have a situation here in America where so many people go to college and can quote lines and lines of bullshit to you but get direct answers off of cheating websites that give students even answers on the next days tests that there is little integrity left among many colleges in America, Often we have a situation where people go in debt and the country too for thousands and billions respectively but when the B.A. is done or the Masters its a wake up call when the world is not handed to them on a silver platter because many students instead of doing internships and staying active in the field they are learning simply slip by and some even gaduate with doctorate and masters degrees and cannot find jobs because they were partying too much in the guise of learning. Notice the phrase too much. Do not envy those with college degrees, a technical trade in which for example one knows basic car repair and can actually do it is more valuable than a person with a doctoral degree who can read you back a memorized book sideways and backwards. God Bless you and I wish you the best in your endeavors.

Take time off. Be it with family, a closed one or by your own self.

You may want to re-discover your family roots, work with kids, make stuffs of your own and sell them off or re-live your dream as a stuntman 10 years ago. These are just some suggestions, come up with your own list and pick on one you'd really like to do.

About college, do it for the sake of gaining knowledge, and do a course that most interests you, something that you're passionate about. Your interests may change over the years, nothing stays the same. What you'll become when you graduate, you'll never know, you don't have to worry really.

Just do what you like. Cos you'll only pass this road once.

And lastly? Don't worry. Life is full of surprises.

Have a little faith in yourself, ok?

You need to go to your local Community College and take the transfer program. You will get your basics there to transfer to a four year college. No matter what you want to do you will need the same basic courses. In the mean time, go to job fairs, talk to as many people as you can there. You are young, so don't worry, you will find your fit. Good luck
