Hi Guys! - My new wireless router refuses to work wirelessly!

It works fine when the Ethernet lead is connected but as soon as you remove it you lose the connection between the computer and router.
My laptop is a new wifi one and yes the switch on the front is on showing a wireless connection is required.
Have been in touch with the manufacturers of the router and they have 'promised' to get an engineer to phone back - yeah right!that was three days ago.

Please help - I'm getting really frustrated with this problem.

Here are a few tips.
Did you turn the wifi switch on your laptop on? I know it's stating the obvious but these things are easily overlooked. Also did you install the software that came with the router? This software helps your computer to recognise the router when you take the ethernet cable out. Is the ethernet cable in the "modem" hole at the back? Remember when your searching for local connections to search wireless or all. Make sure your laptop is set as the host for the LAN.

I guess you have tried the basics like rebooting the router?
and checking that the wireless card is enabled on the laptop, not just switched on but if you go to control panel, network connections, right click the wireless card and make sure it is enabled.
you don't say what make router it is, but you should be able to log on to the router via your ethernet and a web browser, and then check the settings on the wireless.
or look at any logs that are available on the router, this may point you in the direction of the problem.
you also don't say if you have any security enabled, WEP, PSK, mac address filter etc. you can try turning off all security (on a temporary basis only) to see if you can establish a connection.
