My modem randomly loses connection to the internet on my computer. I have tried to reconnect the wires again, still the same. All of a sudden this started two months ago. Its driving me nuts, I could be searching the web and it just stops! Then it starts, then it stops. It takes an hour just to do anything, and this is a fast modem and computer, I need help!

Very common problem. First and foremost, check your filters. If you call tech support that's the first thing they're going to have you do.

Things that can kick you offline, other than your filters are a bad connection, OR, and here's a fun one, file sharing programs. Modems can only keep a finite number of connections, usually around 1000, and bit-torrent or kazaa could rack that up quickly.

Make sure you're using the supplied phone cord (the round gray one). It's a cat-3 cable and must be used because it's two twisted pairs, made to cancel out noise.

Try a different phone jack, the internal wiring of your house could be causing the trouble.

If it's still cutting out after that, call phone tech support and be patient and friendly! If it's a line problem they'll roll a truck and your problem will be fixed. If not, call again.

A couple of things. Do you get any lights on the modem that go out before it drops you off? Also have you tried re-initializing the modem? And you might check your plug ends to be sure they are clean. Regular rubbing alcohol with a Q Tip is the easiest way to clean them. We use that on our $2K circuit packs. It sounds as if yo are just losing signal at times and that could be any of the above plus the possibility of a problem with the modem after it has been on for a while.
