I accidentally knocked over a lava lamp two days ago onto the carpet and it doesn't seem to be drying. What kind of liquid is in there? It was the kind with glitter on the inside.

A transparent oil and translucent wax, although other combinations may be used. The glitter could be polycarb, maybe metal. It will not dry out for a long time. First, I would try liquid dish soap like Dawn.

Well it's lava of course! No it's not. It's generally distilled water and mineral oil. Some have other stuff, depending on the display. The bad news is, the mineral oil should be gone by about,ohhh,2099ad. But you never really liked that carpet anyway!
Oh, and isn't that like some kind of bad 70's Karma? Like breaking a mirror? Except I think you get 13 years of your Disco van not starting...
