i know what night terrors are.
when you are dreaming and you react, for example
if you are dreaming that you are fighting a monster you will think that you are really fighting a monster and your body will react, fight out. it will seem to the other person that you are a awake and fighting thin air, but to you, you think that there is monster there.

Yes, Dean Koontz did indeed write a book titled Night Chills. However it has very little to do with the reality.
Night terrors are nightmares - bad dreams. You are said to have night chills when you awake from a nightmare, covered in sweat, yet cold - with no recollection of the dream or what woke you.

The dean Koontz book is about a town which is used as an experiment. People have been subjected to neuro-linguistic programming/ hypnotic programming and subliminal suggestion - which allows the experimenters to make them do anything.
during the programming phase, subjects are prone to night chills as a side effect
It is not about any existing disease or condition.
In my humble opinion, a very good and original story
